We’re closing in on the end of May, and my to-do list isn’t getting any shorter. I dare say that if anything, it’s getting longer. I guess that falls under the “Adulting” heading.

However! One of my in-progress WIPs is also getting longer, and that’s an excellent thing. 🎉 At the time of this writing, it stands at 93,188 words if I include the setup notes of “This is where you were going in the next few paragraphs, and these are things you need to circle back to by the end of this book.”

I normally don’t include setup notes in my word counts, but since most of them are ready to become parts of the narrative, I’ve decided to do so this time. For any purists keeping strict track, subtract 330 words from the total above.

This means I’m less than 27k words away from my target goal for this book. <does a tired happy shuffle> It’ll still take me a while to finish because work and home improvements insist on occupying most of my time, but I’m getting excited that it’s this much closer to being ready for my alpha readers.

Here’s an early teaser from the main character, reminiscing about what brought her to her current situation.

That was the first of many steps, as my teachers often reminded my fellow novices and me. Usually by way of biting wit or a painful takedown. Or both. It didn't get any easier as initiates, either. I still want to dump Master Achira on his sarcastic rump. Painfully.

Catch you next time. Stay safe wherever you are in the world.
