Fun fact: St. Patrick’s Day and St. Gertrude’s Day are both celebrated on March 17.
For those not in the know, St. Gertude the Great is the patron saint of cats, travelers, and gardeners. Her history is interesting and worth a quick read.
Another trip around the sun has started for yours truly. No, I won’t mention my age. Suffice to say that my real-life XP level is solid double figures and climbing. Celebrations on my natal day involved much sleep and an eventual tipple of The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve. The latter might or might not have had my fingers moving a little awry while typing parts of this. 😉
I’m pleased to report that March is largely a reading and writing month. I have a special project I’m working on, so all my reading is devoted to refreshing my knowledge of canon for that universe. Meanwhile, my non-canon TBR list continues to grow, and grow, and grow… 📚😳
I’m also happy to say that the post-Kickstarter release of EmberWrite is still rock-solid and working well. For those who want Scrivener-type functionality but pared to the essentials and easier to use, it’s worth checking out. I approached it from a different angle since I prefer a much simpler linear layout, but I like its clean interface and adaptability to my writing style.
Thanks to spurts of creativity, I’m also up to 83,470 words in my fantasy WIP. That’s less than 37k words away from my estimated 120k-word goal for book 1. Mind, local betting from fellow author friends says I’ll go over that mark. I don’t disagree, based on other projects that ran long, but we’ll see whose guess hits closer to the stated mark by the time I type “FINIS.”
Next month, I’m considering a day trip to the Big Easy to visit some friends who are flying in for a week. I’m also trying to talk an author friend into joining me. If it happens, it’ll be fun.
House and yard updates are still happening, albeit slower on some things than others. Flowers are appearing, and the trees and grass have started greening up. Some of my azalea bushes and magnolia trees are in bloom. I don’t think they like the current cold snap, but Mother Nature does as she wills.
That’s all the news that’s fit to print, so I’m signing off for now. I have more reading to do before I get back to writing.
Stay safe wherever you are in the world.
