I get it. Many people adopt that mindset, especially at this time of year. No shade if that’s you. I say embrace whatever works—for you.

I’m too contrary, and frankly, rather happy with who I’m evolving into to chase that mindset.

Does not jumping on it mean I don’t have things to work on? Hardly. I’m the first to say I have things I want and need to work on. So this year, I’ll work on selected things. Progress might be slow and incremental, but that’s okay. I also need to be kind to myself.

Which brings us to my wish for you this coming year.

Be kind to yourself.

Spend more time telling that negative inner critic to shut up. Enjoy the small things “just because.” Find one thing to count as a win each day, no matter how tiny. Yes, black humor counts if that’s all you can manage when the excrement hits the high-speed rotary blades.

I hope 2026 brings you bountiful good things.

Happy New Year!
