The WIP, new characters, and the Ides of March

No characters ceased to exist despite some dire warnings 😉

Like many authors, I have more than one story in progress. It’s a “keep the brain happy” thing. The latest adventures happened in the fantasy WIP.

As usual, the existing characters took the reins and ran. I had no idea the weaponsmaster was so devious. I probably should have since he’s a weaponsmaster responsible for training others, but there we have it. I suspect he has more tricks up his sleeve.

I also didn’t know a battle seer was about to introduce herself in a rather dramatic fashion. <Me, scratching head after the fact> This secretive group has a battle seer? Huh. I didn’t know there were any in this land.

Characters, I tell ya. They do the damnedest things. Including revealing things about themselves and their world that hadn’t consciously crossed my mind.

As for the Ides of March? It doesn’t exist in their world. They would have no idea what it referred to in our culture, nor would they put stock in it being ill-omened in any way because of that.

On the other hand, they would take their seer’s warning ultra seriously. With good reason.

Things were not all doom and gloom. Budding friendships are being nurtured, and new connections are forming. Some tantalizing tidbits related to long-held secrets have reached the light. A mage and a self-contained warrior had a silly moment with some villagers, to the amusement of many. Dessert might have been involved.

What’s next?

No, that’s not my question. That was someone yelling from the nosebleed section of the bleachers.

Answer: Sleep is up next. My vision is blurred after getting 7,288 new words down in the WIP, and it’s well beyond time for another screen break. A long one this time.

After that? I have edits to work on, and the WIPs whose genres remain under wraps are screaming for my attention. Hard-earned experience says I should give them some before my muse decides to sit in a corner and sulk.

Here’s to a new day, an excited muse, and other projects to be completed. What are you anticipating today?
