It’s been a hot minute since the last time I could settle down and get some good words down in the fantasy WIP. Life has been coming at me left, right, and center. Not unexpected between work deadlines, packing up my household, and moving to a different state, but I won’t lie…it left me grumbling.
Last night I side-eyed my editing schedule, determined I could take a short break, and opened the WIP to pick up where I left off at the beginning of a training montage. <rubs hands> So. Much. Fun! I won’t spoil the details, but let’s just say that some of my characters were entirely too gleeful about the ways they used magic in concert with physical obstacles in an indoor salle.
For what might be my first time as an author, I told a writer friend I was chatting with that I might need to go back and add to the scene because it was moving too quickly.
Say what? 😂 No, that’s not a phrase anyone often hears from me. I’m usually trimming and streamlining my work. Still, the flow of this one is nagging at me. Despite logging nearly three thousand words, I need to work on the impression of time passing slower than it currently does.
That will happen when I go back in to read and revise last night’s chunk before writing the next part. I can’t wait to see a certain weaponsmaster’s reaction he hears about what happened. For now, it’s back to deadlines and trying to get more of my new office, AKA writer’s cave, set up.
Moving plays havoc with everything, I tell ya. At my current rate of settling in, I might have my new cave set up (mostly) to my liking just in time for my next move this summer.
The irony isn’t lost on me. Nor is the sheer amount of repacking that still needs to be done to get everything in the POD.
Stay safe, and stay creative, however that looks like for you.
