Writing Milestone: Unlocked!

There are no extravagant parties happening, but there was a seated happy dance when I crossed the 50k-word mark in my fantasy WIP. Another one happened when the words kept flowing and I hit 53,043 words before wrapping up the writing session. For those keeping track, that’s somewhere around five thousand new words added from my last two stopping points, both of which I documented on Bluesky, not here.

I would love to say that word count means book one is close to finished, but it has a long way to go. On the other hand, a major chunk is done and I’m pretty happy with it. I even found and filled in a few minor plot holes. That means fewer things for my alpha and beta readers to call me to task for when the time comes for their read-throughs. Phew!

On a side note, the main character in this story isn’t happy with her current situation being on tenterhooks. Nor was she bashful about letting a fellow major character and me know about it. I can’t speak for the other character, but I’m still getting an earful from her. I have other work to do but might give in and write the next section just to quiet her for a while.

Ah, the challenges of being an author with full-time employment that isn’t writing. Toss in the chaos of an impending household relocation, and you end up with sleepless nights, trouble staying awake during the day, and being torn in too many directions at once.

Fun times. Rather, getting new words is fun. The rest, not so much.

Looking ahead

It’s early days yet, but I’m already mulling over ideas for sharing this story when the time comes. This goes beyond the question of how and where I plan to publish it. Stay tuned for future updates since this is where I’ll make any announcements. There might be some surprises.
